Denali Directory

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

We just found out that the school district directory release form that you filled out at registration does not give the Denali Montessori Advisory Committee or the Denali Montessori PTA the ability to compile a school directory that we can all use. We have had a school directory in the past and it is EXTREMELY USEFUL – whether you are organizing a play-date, inviting children to a birthday party or trying to get in touch with your fellow parents or the teachers to deal with an important issue.

We would really appreciate if you provided us with the following information and signed the release and return it to us! PLEASE PRINT LEGIBLY especially the emails and phone numbers – THANK YOU!

I can’t believe we are already into the second week of school! Thank you everyone for your help and especially to all the new PTA members that signed up. In the picture is our own Principal Ruth Dene and PTA Treasure Marissa Cason as they gave Certificates of Appreciation to Senator Johnny Ellis and Rose Foley (from Rep. Gara’s office and also a Denali Montessori parent). Thanks to NECA/IBEW sponsor for making this possible! – John, PTA Pres.

Denali Montessori on Facebook

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

There is a page on Denali Montessori Facebook that John Tichotsky, the PTA President, organized as an experiment for informally communicating about school and PTA issues. It is a “pages” school entry entitled “Denali Montessori.”

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

Denali Montessori capital request for badly needed computer equipment was included in the signed Alaska State Budget!

Thank you to all parents, faculty and staff who wrote emails and letters!

Thanks to Senator Ellis and Representative Gara for introducing the item in the budget. Thanks to Governor Parnell for retaining the item.

Capital Budget Request Needs Your Support

Saturday, May 28th, 2011

Denali Montessori received this letter from Senator Johnny Ellis and Representative Les Gara.  Click here to read.

We need your support:

Dear All,

IT IS EASY ——Please take five minutes to cut and paste a brief email to Governor Parnell and the Budget Director (see point 4 below) . Please forward this to at least two people who would agree to write an email.

This is to replace the computers that can’t be repaired and is the main access to computers for the students – this includes all the reading tutoring and any activity that is computer based!

HERE ARE INSTRUCTIONS:

Dear parents, teachers and friends of Denali Montessori:

PLEASE WRITE A LETTER OR SEND AN EMAIL supporting Denali Montessori $19K capital budget line item.

THE PROBLEM: Denali Montessori’s request for $19K for Multimedia Equipment is in the budget passed by House and Senate. Governor Parnell will be going through the budget and exercising line item veto. Letter from Senator Ellis and Representative Gara attached. The Denali Montessori PTA has written a letter to the Government (also attached) – but we also need a QUANTITY of letters to go to the Governor.

GOAL: Convince Governor Parnell not to veto Denali Montessori line item.

1) The strategy is to send emails and letters to the Governor’s office.

2) Make sure your subject is ” Budget line item Denali Montessori School $19,000 Multimedia Equipment”

3) Send emails and letters to:

Governor
sean.parnell@alaska.gov

Budget Director
karen.rehfeld@alaska.gov

4) Letter should include following basic information and rationale.

May 20, 2011

Governor Sean Parnell
State of Alaska
P.O. Box 110001
Juneau, AK 99811-0001

RE:  Budget line item Denali Montessori School $19,000 Multimedia Equipment -Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development Grants to Municipalities 02 (AS 37.05.315)

Dear Governor Parnell,

I respectfully ask that you include Denali Montessori’s grant funding for $19,000 for Multimedia Equipment when you sign the Alaska budget into law.

The purpose of this money is the second year of a three-year program to purchase computers and computer projectors for Denali Montessori School. The current computers, to be replaced by the grant, are so old that they cannot be repaired. The projectors are for teachers in the classroom and are used to present materials that are required by law.

[OPTIONAL - SOMETHING PERSONAL - WHY YOU THINK COMPUTERS AND TECHNOLOGY ARE GOOD FOR THE SCHOOL]

Sincerely,

[PERSON]

5) Denali Montessori PTA has sent a letter (Click here to read), but we have been told that the Governor’s office will take into consideration the volume of emails of support.

6) In the Lt. Gov’s office, April Shoemaker is also collecting a list of request support.

You can forward your email to her.
april.shoemaker@alaska.gov

When you forward your request to her then add:

“I understand that the Lt. Governor and you are collecting a list of supporting documents for budget requests.”

7) Feel free to forward request to your spouses, friends and relatives in Alaska. Volume of requests is good.

9) If anyone has further questions – don’t hesitate to be in touch with jtichotsky@alaska.com

Regards,

John Tichotsky

Denali PTA President

PTA needs a Treasurer!

Monday, May 9th, 2011

Hello,

The Denali Parent Teacher Association is looking for a volunteer to serve as the Denali PTA Treasurer for the next school year.  Serving on the board is a great volunteer opportunity for people whose schedule does not allow volunteering during school hours.  It is also a wonderful chance to be involved in shaping Denali’s future and keeping it a vibrant and positive place for our children.

The PTA is actively involved behind the scenes — providing opportunities that students might otherwise miss.  PTA provides funding for field trip buses, the 6th grade trip to Seward, Battle of the Books, the Science Fair, the Reading Support Program, and many other activities.  The PTA also sponsors several wonderful events at Denali including the Back to School picnic, Book Fairs, Fall Carnival, and more.

I know… I know what you are thinking:  How can I serve as the PTA Treasurer in addition to all of the other things going on in my life?  The answer:  “Many hands make light work.”  When I helped organize the Back to School picnic I was amazed with all of the people who volunteered to make it a success.  The group effort has continued throughout this year.

If you are interested in serving as the PTA Treasurer next school year or if you need more information about what the position entails, please contact me.  I look forward to hearing from you!
